Chairman of the All-Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday urged the world community to shun double standard in solving Kashmir issue which is lingering from the past 65 years and solve it as per Kashmiris aspirations. He expressed these views while delivering a lecture here at National Defence University (NDU) on "Resolution of Kashmir Issue in the new Geo-Political environment".

"When the world community is solving Afghanistan, Middle East and other issues then why there is a double standard on Kashmir which is just cause of Kashmiri people," he asked. He categorically stated that people of Kashmir were determined to continue their freedom struggle until the logical conclusion of Kashmir issue.

Mirwaiz made it clear that their struggle was not against the Indian people or the state but the thinking behind the world's largest democratic country which is not sincere and serious in giving rights to the people of Kashmir. Hurriyat leader appreciated the steps taken by Pakistan in solving the issue and said that Kashmiris being the core stakeholders of the issue should be included in any kind of talks between the two countries.

"Pakistan has always talked about Kashmir issue. They are committed for the referendum and dialogue as per Kashmiris aspirations. Pakistan's support for the Kashmir cause is always unconditional," Mirwaiz remarked. The vibrant Hurriyat leader expressed joy over saying that during his visit to Pakistan, every single party and person of Pakistan assured full support to Kashmiris which is very encouraging.

He also talked about Kashmiri nationalism emerging from the last twenty years and termed it another option for the Kashmiris. Mirwaiz termed development on Kashmir issue pragmatic and said that in terms of constantly changing geo-political environment, they are optimistic that the problem would definitely be solved as per Kashmiris wishes.

Mirwaiz was of the view that there were two main things known as the aspirations of Kashmiris and their grievances adding that India is focusing on the second part and totally ignoring the first one. "India tried to project elections as an alternative to self- determination but could not succeeded in getting Kashmiris sympathies and attention. He asked the Indian government that if they believe in mitigating the grievances of Kashmiris then what was the logic behind keeping military in Kashmir.

"Our struggle is peaceful. We never believe in confrontation but the presence of military in the area changes the scenario," he remarked adding that violence has come down but still not even single soldier left Kashmir. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq termed the Kashmiris' struggle as their indigenous and not a sponsored and expressed the determination that this struggle would soon meet to its logical ending.
